VETTS Super 50s Team Competition - 25-26 April 2026
A player-funded team representing Cippenham took part in the inaugural VETTS Super 50s Team Competition at Nottingham over the weekend. The team of Julie Dean, Dawn Pearce, Sue Hayes and Denise Weller, drawn from the Club's teams in the Veterans British Club League and VETTS Super 60s Team Competition, played four matches but their only point came in a 3-3 draw with Sutton-at- Hone. Their other three matches were lost.

The first defeat came in the opening match on Saturday morning. Dawn Pearce got Cippenham off to a good start with a 3-2 win over Sue Pingram but later lost to Celia Hooker who had been beaten by Sue Hayes. It was left to Sue to try to recover a point but she lost the final set to Lynn Trussell after having taken the first two games. The lunchtime match saw Cippenham thrashed 6-0 by an all-star Market Rasen team who went on to win the league without losing a single individual match.

Cippenham had to wait until Sunday morning for their next match and this provided the highlight of the weekend. Julie Dean was the star for Cippenham, beating both Helen Shields and Carol Homewood while Dawn Pearce chipped in by beating Sue Bailey-Robertson, putting Cippenham 2-0 up at that early stage. However, the spoils were ultimately shared 3-3 with Sue and Dawn both losing close five-game matches.

The weekend rounded off with another 2-4 defeat to Sherwood with both of Cippenham's wins coming from Julie Dean.
