Summer Grand Prix Week 1 - 13 August 2019

Shae takes early lead

Sixteen players competed in the first round of the Club's Summer Grand Prix on Tuesday evening. This was just the first of a series of six weekly events, all on Tuesday evenings, aimed at providing the opportunity for the Club's players to get ready, and match fit, for the start of the new season in September.

The first week was well contested with the sixteen players arranged into four groups of four for the preliminary stage. The group winners were Shae Thakker, Bassam Mocharrafie, Michal Garski and Graham Trimming. By far the most evenly matched group was that won by Michal against players of the calibre of Lawrence Harvey, Elroy Hull and Chris Collins. Everyone won at least once and nobody beat all three opponents.

Shae duly beat Graham in one semi-final while Michal eliminated the 2018 series champion Bas in the other. Shae had obviously benefited from his trip to the hotter climes of Thailand with the GB para squad the previous week and looked very sharp as he beat Michael in the final.

The Summer Grand Prix continues every Tuesday until 17 September.
