Sue Hayes honoured by TTE - 9 July 2025

Huge congratulations to Sue Hayes who received the honour of Vice-President at Table Tennis England's Annual General Meeting last month.

Sue is from a table tennis family - both of her parents represented England in international matches and her children have also been very successful. Sue's journey in table tennis began at home in Surrey and then moved to the south coast where she held important positions in local leagues.

Then, in 1997, Sue moved with her growing family to Slough and immediately introduced herself to Cippenham Table Tennis Club Since then Sue has worked tirelessly in coaching and administration, culminating in being elected as the Club's Chair at the AGM in June 2025. Sue is also a proficient player, having represented Bucks at senior, veteran and over-60s level and played for Cippenham in the Slough and Maidenhead leagues, and the Senior, Women's and Veterans' British Club Leagues. Sue was also a member, on all four occasions, of the Cippenham teams that won the national Gainsford Cup between 2002 and 2006. Sue currently ranks sixth in the all-time appearances list for Cippenham, having amassed 628 team matches since her debut in 1997.

A fitting reward to a very popular and hard working colleague.

Sue becomes the fifth Cippenham stalwart to been honoured by TTE as Vice-President, the others being Peter Hillier (1993), Graham Trimming (2008), Ken Phillips (2017) and Steve Smith (2024).

This is how the citation for Sue's award read (from the TTE website):

"Sue describes herself as a retired teacher, happily married mother of four and grandmother of four, a practising Catholic and lover of sport and music. Her sport is and always has been table tennis. Daughter of two table tennis internationals, Jack and Jean Head (nee Winn), Sue was immersed in table tennis from a very young age, starting playing as soon as she was able to see above the table, and reaching a decent standard, representing Surrey at Junior Level.
She has played table tennis at local league, interleague and county levels all her adult life and represented Sussex at senior level, Buckinghamshire at seniors, veterans and over-60s and Cippenham TTC in Women’s and Veteran’s British Clubs Leagues."
