Club Championships Day 4 - 10 June 2019

Joe in a class of his own

Newcomer Joe Barraclough was in a class of his own as he won the final event of the annual Club Championships, the Junior Singles, against a field of twenty players. After winning his group, Joe powered his way past Tom Brown and Rachael Iles to set up a meeting in the final with Jaiden Caldeira. Like his previous opponents, Jaiden was no match for Joe who ran out an easy winner 11-4, 11-5, 11-6.

Jaiden's route to the final had been more competitive and he needed five close games in the semi-final to defeat William Fricker in the semi-final and that was after William himself had won his quarter-final match only 15-13 in the fifth against Edward Meacock.

There was another close match in the top half of the draw when, in the first round, Tom Brown only disposed of Sam 11-9 in the fifth. There was also a meeting of Cippenham's top two girls n the quarter-final and this time Rachael Iles was the winner over her friend Anna Piercey in four games.
