The 2018 Club Championships continued with the Open Doubles on Thursday.

All three seeded pairs emerged top of their groups and went on to contest a round-robin for the first three places. Graham Trimming and Laurie Talbot and Igor Liiko and Vladimir Mihajlina did so without dropping a game. Top seeds Maciej (“Magic”) Dlugozima and Ricky Hardcastle dropped their first game to Jaiden Caldeira and Sue Hayes before winning 3-1.

Group A provided the closest match when Akeel Mir and Zsolt Varga beat Dave and Elena Tant 15-13 in the fifth and deciding game. In Group B, Armando Borges and Xavier Monteiro played out two matches that went the distance, beating Ian Thomson and Keith Hall but losing to Tony Jackson and Walter Aldridge.

Magic and Ricky, being the Maidenhead League Men’s Singles champions for th last two years, easily won the final play-off group. For Magic, this was his second successive doubles title at Cippenham having won with Lawrence Harvey last year. Graham and Laurie beat Igor and Vladimir 3-1 for second place.
