British League 4th Weekend 13-14.3.10

Both teams playing at Cippenham were engaged in battles against relegation and both were decided only by the final matches. However, a 4-4 draw, from 0-2 down, against Guernsey sealed the second team’s survival by one set as Kingfisher lost 6-2 on the adjacent table and the first team got their second 5-3 win of the weekend to pull three points clear of the drop zone.

National Junior League 4th Day 13.3.10

Alex Nagle did not quite keep his 100% record up throughout  the entire season. His one loss in the final round of matches gave him an aggregate of 34 wins from 35 matches - a tremendous effort. Cippenham’s three teams finished locked together in 2nd, 3rd and 4th places in Division 2.

Junior & Cadet 6 Nations 12-14.3.10

Charleigh Kirby became the latest Cippenham player to represent England. She teamed up with Vicki Smith as the England cadet girls’ team in the 6 Nations. In the team event they came second behind Ireland while Charleigh also reached the semi-final of the individual cadet girls’ singles.

Junior British League 2nd Weekend 13-14.2.10

Cippenham girls’ team enjoyed a much better second weekend in the Junior British League, gaining three wins from four matches and thereby catapulted themselves up two places to finish third in the Premier Division. Veterans’ British League 1st Weekend 7-8.11.09

The veterans’ team are the most successful so far this season of all the Club’s team in British leagues. In truth, there was not a lot to beat but fourth place and four points in Division 1A after an unearned promotion is a good return. Roger Hookey was the most successful player with six wins out of eight.

National Junior League 2nd Day 7.11.09

The National Junior League is half way through. The Cippenham A side is struggling, bottom of Division 1 but the B and C teams have done well and set in second and third positions in Division 2. Alex Nagle has won all fifteen of his matches for the C team while Duncan Calvert won all nine on day 1 for the B team but found it harder going when promoted to the A team for day 2.

Anniversary Party and Awards 5.11.09

Alan Farral will be forever remembered at the Club now that the Junior Player of the Year Award carries his name, a fitting tribute to our much loved coach who succumbed to cancer a year ago. His widow Jean and children Adam and Vanessa were on hand at the party to make the presentation to Eddie Mitchell. Charles, Steph and Eddie Mitchell also presented the Outstanding Contribution Award to Jim Hayes in rmemory of Karen Mitchell. The Senior Player of the Year award was presented to Steve Smith.

Junior British League 1st Weekend 24-25.10.09

The junior teams did little better than their senior counterparts two weeks earlier. Placed in high divisions, the girls managed two points from drawn matches in the Premier Division while the boys have one point only in Division One. Highlights of the weekend were Natalie Slater’s win over England number 2 Emily Bates and Charleigh Kirby’s win over Laura Robinson, ranked eight places higher.

British League 2nd Weekend 10-11.10.09

Oh dear! One win and eleven defeats was Cippenham’s sorry tale of woe from the worst set of results ever for the Club in a single British League weekend. Only the first team’s 6-2 win over bottom team Generation 2 in Division 1 South gave something to cheer. Perverse, the only Cippenham team that is bottom of their division, the second team, have the most points (five) and all teams can escape relegation with better performances over the final two weekends.

Bucks Trials 26.9.09

Eddie Mitchell topped the boys’ section of the Bucks Trials last weekend. Incredibly, this was the third season in a row that Eddie had accomplished this feat. Anthony Gardner finished fifth, Alex Nagle eighth, Elliot Ford tenth and Joseph Underwood eleventh. In the girls’ section there were only two competitors but, nevertheless, Stephanie Mitchell came out on top.

Women’s British League 1st Weekend 26-27.9.09

Despite a bright performance from Charleigh Kirby, who won eight out of ten, Cippenham’s re-entry after a year’s absence from the Women’s British League, did not fare well. Only one point was gained as the team sit bottom of Division 3 at the half-way stage.

British Leaguer 1st Weekend 5-6.9.09

The three Cippenham teams made solid, in unspectacular, starts to their British League campaigns. The first two gain two points from a couple of drawn matches, the second team fared best with two wins and a draw resulting in five points and third place in Division 1 South and Midlands while the promoted third team, operating in Division 2 South and West, started well with three points on Saturday but faded on Sunday. Most successful players were Owen Clutterbuck (6/8) and David Hayes (3/4) while Cedric Brion, Martin Adams, Steve Buck, Paul Baker and Tony Stead all won half of their eight matches.

Grand Prix 23 1.9.09

By winning the two weekly events that he entered,Krysztof Zemelka is the latest winner of the Cippenham Grand Prix. Graham Trimming’s consistency over four events earned him second place and Terry Osborne’s win in the final event was enough to give him third place overall. 34 players took part and the other three weeks were won by Paul Baker, Jonny Evans and Colin Wilson.

Cippenham Series 1 29-30.8.09

The new season kicked off with the first events of the second season of the Cippenham Series. First winners were Garth Kinlocke (MS), Charlotte Carey (WS), Hari Gehlot (VMS) and Janice Lee (VWS).
