Cippenham Young Players’ Summer Festival 13-
There was another huge entry for the 11th annual Summer Festival. Star of the show
was Daniel Moses who won U18BS and U16BS. Other events were won by Ashley Facey-

The Club’s management reported yet another successful year to members at the AGM.

Cippenham Series 6 Senior 5 and Veterans’ 3 2-
The inaugural season of the Cippenham Series finished with a flourish. In the men’s
Singles, Patrick Thomas won the weekend event but Abdul Wuraola’s place in the final
secured him the overall Series prize for the double of men’s and veterans’ men’s
prizes. Jurate Brazaityte was well out in front in the women’s Series so her defeat
by weekend champion Jasmin Ould in the semi-
Cippenham Series 5 Junior 3 2-
James Ward defeated Cippenham’s Eddie Mitchell in the final of the boys’ event and
this was also the final finishing positions in the Boys’ Series. Charlotte Caret
completed a successful weekend by winning the girls’ round robin with Sally Hoang

Cippenham Cadet & Under-
One of Cippenham’s newest members, Charleigh Kirby, defeated Charlotte Carey to take the Cadet Girls’ title after her opponent had earlier won the U13 event. Lewis Williams made it a double in the U13s for Wales while Eddie Freeman, after eliminating top seed Eddie Mitchell in the quarters, took the Cadet Boys’ title to Staffordshire.
Club Championships Open Doubles 28.4.09
The youngsters came to the fore as Liam McTiernan and Edward Mitchell won a fast
hitting, entertaining final against Phil Prady and Steve Smith 3-
Club Championships Veterans’ Singles 21.4.09
Six players competed in a round robin event and at the end three were ties with four wins each from their five matches. By virtue of the results of the matches between the three, Terry Osborne was declared the winner, Graham Trimming second and Elroy Hull third.
Luxembourg Open Championships 17-
Gavin Evans won his first senior international gold medal at the Luxembourg Open.
Playing with Danny Reed as England 2 they cruised through the rounds to beat Belarus

Club Championships Open Singles 14.4.09
Colin Wilson rolled back the years to win the Open Singles from a large quality field. This was Colin’s first competitive match for about fifteen years but it hardly showed as he brushed aside all opponents, including finalist Steve Buck, without dropping a game.
National Junior Championships 11.4.09
Gavin Evans, in his first year out of cadets, swept all before him in the National Junior Championships winning all three titles open to him. As well as the Junior Boys’ Singles, Gavin collected winner’s medals in the Junior Boys’ Doubles with Liam Pitchford and the Junior Mixed Doubles with Emily Bates.
Slough Masters and Presentation Evening 7.4.09
It was a good night for Cippenham. Steve Smith won the Masters, Scoundrels won the
Division 2 Handicap Competition and Outlaws were presented with the Slough League
championship trophy they won a few weeks ago. A delighted Steve dedicated his win
to his sister who recently lost her fight against cancer. However, Steve nearly did
not make it to the final. In his semi he saved three match points against Paul Baker
and in the first round trailed Bas Mocharrafie by 1-
Cippenham Series 4 28-
Abdul Wuraola took advantage of the absence of Neil Charles to take his points tally to within nine of the leader by winning the Men’s Singles in the fourth Senior Open in the season’s Series. Meanwhile Jurate Brazaityte won her third of the season to virtually guarantee her the winner’s cheque in the Women’s Singles. James Ward, despite only reaching the semis, still leads the Boys’ Singles list with today’s winner Reece Tan in second place. Only four points separate the top three in the Girls’ Singles with India’s Saloni Shirwaiker, winner today, joining Jasmin Ould and Fefei Pei at the top.
Dilger Cup Final 24.3.09
Cippenham Outlaws completed the league and cup double tonight. Having won the Slough League title a few weeks ago, tonight saw the team of Neil Bird, Steve Smith and Graham Trimming complete the double with a win in the Dilger Cup team handicap competition.
Slough League 10.3.09
Cippenham Outlaws finished the Slough League season with a 100% win record in their twelve matches and thus reclaimed the Slough League title they last won in 2006. 102 points were gained out of a maximum 120 by the team of Neil Bird, Paul Baker, Steve Smith, Tony Stead and Graham Trimming with help in two matches by Steve Smith snr.
British League 4th Weekend 21-
Cippenham teams enjoyed much more success in the final weekend with Super Saturday
producing a maximum twelve points across the teams. The C team, bottom of Division
3 South at Christmas after eight matches, won their last six for a fantastic climb
up the table to finish in second place. A good all-

Sainsbury visit 19.2.09
Cippenham played host to a visit from representatives of the Sainsbury supermarket chain and ETTA Director of Development Diccon Gray this evening. The ETTA and Sainsbury’s are developing a joint venture and the purpose of the visit was to show Sainsbury’s a top table tennis club.
Grand Prix 19 17.2.09
Rafique Sarhadi finished a deserved winner of the latest Grand Prix after winning the last four events. He has yet to be beaten in the event although he had to save match point in one final against Graham Trimming. Graham, who finished second, and Ashley Shaw won the two other weeks.
Maidenhead Closed Championships 14-
Eddie Mitchell had a great weekend, reaching two finals in the Maidenhead Closed
Championship held at his home club Cippenham. The 14 year old came up against top
seed Hari Gehlot in both finals, the Men’s Singles and the Premier Division Singles,
losing 3-
Junior British League 2nd Weekend 7-
Eddie Mitchell won nine of his ten matches to power the Cippenham boys’ team up one place in Division 2A of the JBL. Seven points from a possible ten was a huge improvement over the first weekend. The girls were not so successful, their only points coming from a walkover.
Cippenham Series 3 7-
Neil Charles won the Men’s Singles over Abdul Wuraola in a battle between the previous winners in the Series, while Catherine Chen turned the tables on Jurate Braizaytye in the Women’s Singles. Wuraola and our own Sue Hayes stepped into what must be uncatchable positions in the veterans’ events and both remain unbeaten after two tournaments.
Veterans’ British League 2nd Weekend 31.1-
Two wins and a draw from five matches gave Cippenham enough points top maintain third
position in VBL Division 2A, losding oout on runners-
Cippenham Young Players’ New Year Festival 31.1-
Eddie Mitchell provided Cippenham with a home win in the top event, the U18 Boys’
Singles. Three of the other titles went along the M4 to Wales, including the U18
and U16 Girls’ Singles for Chloe Thomas. Other winners were Daniel O’Connell, Ashley

World Junior Championships 9.12.08

Terry Osborne became the fourth player to win the Grand Prix twice. Terry won all three weeks that he entered while the others were won by Oli Shaw, Anthony Gardner and new recruit Vinny Kapoor. Anthony finished second overall with Ricky Hardcastle third.

Bucks Closed Championships 23.11.08
Eddie Mitchell and Steve Smith surpassed expectations by winning the Men’s Doubles title at the Bucks Closed while Eddie also beat both the top two seeds in reaching the final of the Men’s Singles.
Funeral of Alan Farral 17.11.08
A huge gathering of about thirty people associated with Cippenham Table Tennis Club gave a fitting tribute to the passing of one of the Club's most popular figures. Alan was the Club's lead coach at the beginners' session for the last twelve years and possessed remarkable DIY skills which he used to the huge benefit of the Club. Aged just 56, Alan succumbed to cancer last week. He will be sorely missed. RIP.
County Championships Senior Premier Division 15-
The Bucks senior team, playing for the first time in the Premier Division, had a successful weekend staged at the Cippenham venue, winning one, drawing one and losing the other of their three matches. The Bucks team consisted of five Cippenham members: Bradley Evans; David Hayes; Danny Baxter; Gemma Chapman and Caroline Linz.
Cippenham Team 2-
The 3rd Cippenham Team Open was another great success with a full entry of 24 teams although one withdrew the day before. Top seeds Ware's the Butler? (Matt Ware and Mark Butler) won the event after a rousing final with Abdul Sports & Table Tennis Ltd (Abdul Wuraola and Ashley Stokes). Best local performance came from The Shawmeisters (Ashley and Oliver Shaw) who finished eighth.
World Cadet Challenge 30.10-
Gavin Evans has picked up another prestigious title in his illustrious international
career. The current European Cadet Singles champion was the leading member of the
Europe team that won the World Cadet Challenge in Helsingborg, Sweden. Gavin showed
remarkable form to remain unbeaten throughout the team event and with two French
players beat Asia 3-
ETTA Annual Volunteer and Coach Awards 1.1.08
Cippenham members picked up another three awards at the English Table Tennis Association's annual bash. Two were for coaching as Sue Hayes won Female Coach of the Year for the second time while Steph Mitchell won Young Coach of the Year. This was Steph's second award in as many years as it was for Graham Trimming who picked up Press Officer of the Year.
Veterans' British League 25-
The Cippenham veterans' men's team made a good start to their VBL campaign in Division 2A winning three of their five matches to lie in third place on six points. Charlie Childs won three of his four matches with Mike Rhodes and Paul Baker managed a 50% return from their eight matches.
Grand Prix 17 21.10.08
Oli Shaw was the runaway winner of GP17 and amassed 400 points allowing him to have the final week off!. Oli won three of the six weekly events while gavin Williams, who finished second overall, won one as did Terry Osborne and Elroy Hull.
Junior British League 18-
A disappointing first weekend of the Junior British League sees the boys' team lying in fifth place in Division 2A with the girls rock bottom of Division 3.
Cippenham Series 2 18-
Abdul Wuraola was the star of the tournament, winning events on both days. On Saturday
he defeated Neil Wright to take maximum points from the Men's Singles event and then
justified his England number one veterans' ranking by winning the Veterans' Men's
Singles on Sunday. Jurate Brazaityte won the Women's Singles, as she did in Series
1, while there was a home winner of the Veterans' Women's Singles in Sue Hayes. Points
leader of the men's event after Series 1, Neil Charles, reached only the quarter-
Annual Awards 16.10.08
A large number of members and their families gathered at the Club to celebrate 12 years since the opening of Cippenham Table Tennis Centre and to honour the Club's volunteers and players of the year. Social Officer Jacquie Lovell organized the evening and spoke eloquently about all the Club's volunteers, each of who received a present as a small token of the Club's gratitude. Steve Munson and Angela Oetiker were honoured as the Club's senior and junior players of the year and the highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Karen Mitchell Memorial Award for Outstanding Contribution to Roy Linz. Roy was rewarded for many years assisting with the Club's elite coaching programme, his work with the Southern Region training squad based at Cippenham and his support to the general membership by acting as the Club's agent for kit and equipment with suppliers Bribar.
British League 1st Weekend 20-
Cippenham made their customary slow start to the British League campaign although result picked up on Sunday. Team 1, playing in Division 1 South, won only one point while Team II in Division One South and Midlands won three points. In Division 3 South, Team III made four points, all on Sunday. Most successful players were Martin Adams and Eddie Mitchell with five wins each while Tony Stead marked his debut with four wins and 100%. Other good win ratios came from Danny Baxter, Martin Gray, Owen Clutterbuck, Steve Munson and Chris Hansell.
Bucks Trials 13.9.08
The Buckinghamshire county trials were held at Cippenham once again home club players tasted some success. Cippenham held the top two places in the junior boys’ event through Eddie Mitchell and Alex Polding while Steph Mitchell and Angela Oetiker were second and third respectively in the girls.
Grand Prix 16 9.9.08
Club Chairman Graham Trimming became the third member to win a second Grand Prix
series even though he was away on holiday for the final week. Graham had amassed
270 points in his four previous weeks to be uncatchable. In the end, Paul Baker was

New umpiring qualifications 30-
Following on from the training received a couple of months ago, 14 (yes, 14!) new County Umpires were qualified at Cippenham over the weekend. Practical assessments were conducted during the Cippenham Series opener. 7 of the successful candidates were Cippenham members: David Akehurst; Paul Baker; David Hayes; Sue Hayes; Alex Lovell; Jacquie Lovell; Steve Smith.
