Club Championships Junior Singles 27.5.10

George lobs his way to victory

A good entry of 27 players, mainly from the Club’s beginners’ coaching session (the event was played during an early Thursday session) but with some also from the Monday advanced coaching session, contested the final event in the annual Club Championships.

Top seed George Weller, the second most successful player in the Club’s National Junior League teams this season, eventually prevailed but only after coming back from two games down in the final against second seed Lee Fletcher. George’s defensive approach appeared to be letting him down after two games but his unerring ability to lob back onto the table the fiercest smashes from Lee eventually broke down Lee’s more adventurous style.

Semi-finalists were Callum Schurer and Leo Pickford while Lee’s brother Sam Fletcher, Duncan Brown, Michael Gadziala and Megan Ashfield were the beaten quarter-finalists.
