Another successful year reported

Graham Trimming, the Club’s Chairman and General Secretary, reported another successful year to a small group of members assembled for the AGM. He praised and thanked fellow Committee members, event organizers, team captains and the many other volunteers that enable the Club to sustain its ambitious activity programme.

Amongst the many highlights of the year were Gavin Evans’ exploits in winning the Cadet Boys’ Singles title at the European Youth Championships and team titles at the World Cadet Challenge and the Luxembourg Open. Cippenham Outlaws did the league and cup double in Slough, a great last British League weekend saw all teams retain their positions and the third team elevated to second place in Division 3 South and there were notable individual successes in local, open and national tournaments.

The Club was proud that three of its members, Sue Hayes, Steph Mitchell and Graham Trimming were honoured at the ETTA National Volunteer and Coaching Awards and that more training of volunteers had taken place including the qualification of eight Club members as County Umpires.

The most exciting news has been the recent appointment of Jan Chapman as Community Coach with a brief to coach in local schools and bring her pupils back to a new Tuesday beginners’ coaching session at the Club.

Previous development initiatives had resulted in further increases in Club membership numbers and also further increases in the attendance at the Club’s practice sessions on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings. The website had been much improved and independently hosted allowing far greater content than was possible before.
